Cloud Collaboration – Autodesk BIM 360 Platform

Cloud Collaboration: Out with the old in with the new

If you currently work in the Building industry, you are bound to have heard the term BIM (Building Information Modelling) used often. Yet it seems that after more than 10 years since the term was first uttered, people are still confused as to the exact meaning and intent.

In June 2018, the CADPRO Systems Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) Team together with Autodesk, travelling to different areas in New Zealand to clarify and discuss Autodesk’s BIM Solutions currently available.

This event was focussed specifically for design teams and construction teams and their integration with Autodesk BIM 360 platform.

In the morning session, Adrian Cilia from Autodesk presented a background overview of the new BIM 360 offerings from Autodesk that includes BIM 360 Docs, BIM 360 Design and BIM 360 Build. Autodesk’s Sam Macalister discussed the BIM 360 Docs platform on which the other services are hosted on, emphasising the benefits of cloud collaboration.

The team from CADPRO Systems presented a live, integrated BIM workflow between Architect, Engineers and Project managers using the BIM 360 Design platform, that ensures improved project team collaboration and up-to-date model sharing.

Construction Teams

In the afternoon session, BIM 360 Build for the contractors, sub-contractors and project managers was showcased live, demonstrating the benefits it holds for the construction industry including features like RFI’s (Requests for Information), checklists, site issues and reports.

The response from the audience was welcoming and at times turned into valuable discussions about their current workflows that could be improved upon.
