Why is Autodesk making these changes?

Autodesk continues to evolve its offerings as your needs change. With these changes, design customers will have access to the Autodesk Construction Cloud unified platform.  It includes capabilities tailored to your needs & workflows and supports your digital transformation goals by providing access to a common data environment that includes unlimited cloud storage.

I’m a current customer of BIM 360 Design, BIM 360 Docs, and/or AEC Collection. What should I do to prepare for these changes?

If you are a current BIM 360 Docs, BIM 360 Design, or AEC Collection, you may continue using these products without interruption to your projects.

  • If you are an AEC Collection customer, you will automatically get access to Autodesk Docs, which includes access to BIM 360 Docs. Seats of Autodesk Docs will be added to current AEC Collection subscriptions at a 1:1 rate.
  • If you are a BIM 360 Design customer, you will be automatically upgraded to Autodesk BIM Collaborate Pro, which means you can start new projects in Autodesk Construction Cloud unified platform and continue to access and work on BIM 360 projects.
  • If you are a BIM 360 Docs customer, you may continue using BIM 360 for your BIM 360 projects without interruption. However, you will receive automatic access to Autodesk Docs, which is only available and included in the AEC Collection. However, there are alternatives if you need to access projects in Autodesk Construction Cloud unified platform. Contact us for details.

Why would I want to start a project in Autodesk Construction Cloud unified platform?

Starting a new project in Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) enables you to prepare for the future of project delivery with the support of Autodesk’s most comprehensive design and construction cloud platform. You will be able to:

  • Connect your design data to construction partners’ data in Autodesk Build via Autodesk Docs.
  • Connect to an interoperable ecosystem of integration partners that build solutions for design and construction needs.
  • Participate in full project lifecycle workflows with a more robust data schema, from common data environment to digital handover

What is the difference in functionality between these three offerings?

  • Autodesk Docs, a common data environment, is a centralised document management solution that acts as a single source of truth across the project lifecycle for all teams. It is available in the AEC Collection and includes subscriptions to Autodesk BIM Collaborate, Autodesk BIM Collaborate Pro, Autodesk Takeoff, and Autodesk Build.
  • Autodesk BIM Collaborate is a cloud-based design collaboration and coordination software for reviewers and non-authoring contributors on project teams. It includes Autodesk Docs, Design Collaboration and Model Coordination modules and enables project teams to align and execute on design intent by managing the entire design collaboration and coordination workflow from a single solution to reduce rework, improve productivity and accelerate project delivery.
  • Autodesk BIM Collaborate Pro is the next evolution of BIM 360 Design, is co-authoring, design collaboration, and coordination software for AEC teams. It includes all the functionality of BIM Collaborate plus the collaboration services of Revit Cloud Worksharing, Collaboration for Civil 3D, and Collaboration for Plant 3D. It is for design authors who require anytime, anywhere, co-authoring access in Revit, Civil 3D, and Plant 3D.

Why are we changing the name of BIM 360 Design?

Autodesk is committed to adapting our products and adding value to them as our customers’ needs are changing. This name and product offering change reflect the shift of document storage and management from BIM 360 Docs to Autodesk Docs and new capabilities, such as model coordination.

What is happening to BIM 360?

There are no plans to discontinue the BIM 360 platform, and Autodesk will continue to provide customers with the access and support they need for existing projects at this time.

Are Autodesk Docs and BIM 360 Docs the same offering?

No. While each offering contains many of the same common data environment features today, Autodesk Docs supports document management for projects on the Autodesk Construction Cloud platform, while BIM 360 Docs supports document management for projects on the BIM 360 platform. With Autodesk Docs, AEC Collection subscribers can access projects on the Autodesk Construction Cloud or BIM 360 platforms.

Does Autodesk Docs include access to projects on BIM 360?

If you have access to Autodesk Docs through a subscription to the AEC Collection, Autodesk BIM Collaborate, or Autodesk BIM Collaborate Pro, you can access projects on both the Autodesk Construction Cloud and the BIM 360 platforms.

All products on Autodesk Construction Cloud unified platform will also enable access to BIM 360 projects.

I only have a subscription to BIM 360 Docs. Can I access projects on both BIM 360 and the Autodesk Construction Cloud platform?

If you have a subscription to only BIM 360 Docs, you can only access projects hosted on the BIM 360 platform. To access projects on the Autodesk Construction Cloud unified platform, you’ll need access to Autodesk Docs by purchasing Autodesk BIM Collaborate.

What is the future of BIM 360 Coordinate?

With the launch of BIM Collaborate and BIM Collaborate Pro in February, BIM 360 Coordinate will no longer be available for purchase. Upon renewal, customers will receive access to BIM Collaborate and continue to have access to BIM 360 Coordinate projects.

What versions of Revit, Civil 3D and Plant 3D are supported?

Projects on BIM 360 will support Revit 2018.3 or later, Civil 3D 2020.2 or later and Plant 3D 2021 or later. Projects on the unified platform will support Revit 2018.3 or later, Civil 3D 2020.5.1 or later, and Plant 3D 2021 or later.

How can I access these new modules and the Autodesk Construction Cloud Platform

If your company does not already have an existing BIM 360 account, the contract manager can create a new account via the “Access Now” button in Autodesk Accounts next to the Autodesk Docs, BIM Collaborate, or BIM Collaborate Pro entitlement which will create a new account that has access to both the Autodesk Construction Cloud and BIM 360 on the US data centre..

If your company has an existing BIM 360 account (regardless of which data centre it’s hosted on), the contract manager hitting “Access Now” will enable that existing BIM 360 account access to the Autodesk Construction Cloud platform on the US data centre. If an end-user hits “Access Now” they’ll be taken to a page where they can select the destination they want to access.. If an end user hits “Access Now” they’ll be taken to a page where they can select the destination, they want to access.

How will I be able to manage my licenses and entitlements?

Once Contract Managers have set up access to the Autodesk Construction Cloud, they can invite users to the account and project and provide access to the included modules, including Model Coordination and Insight modules and any associated folders.

In Autodesk Account, contract managers should ensure they have assigned entitlements to BIM Collaborate, BIM Collaborate Pro or Autodesk Docs entitlements in Autodesk Account as applicable.

Is Autodesk Docs ISO 19650 compliant?

Autodesk Docs and BIM 360 Docs are targeted to become ISO 19650 compliant sometime in 2021, but not at first launch.

Will I be able to buy user packs for my team? How does BYOS work?

BIM Collaborate / BIM Collaborate PRO are “Bring Your Own Subscription.”

BIM 360 or Autodesk Construction Cloud users in Revit, Civil 3D, Advance Steel and Plant 3D will need a license in Autodesk Accounts for BIM Collaborate or BIM Collaborate Pro, as well as an invite to a project.

Can I provide licenses to my consultants?

Yes, you can still provide licenses to your consultants. However, be aware that their consultant could use that license to access any project to which they’ve been invited.

Currently, there is no way to prevent the consultant from accessing other projects with the license.

For BIM 360 document management only users, they can simply be invited to a project.

For users in Autodesk Construction Cloud projects, or users using Revit Cloud Worksharing, Collaboration for Civil 3D, or Collaboration for Plant 3D, they’ll need to be entitled to those services in Autodesk Accounts as well as invited to a project.

Will I be able to trial these new offerings?

Yes
